About

Who is Jeff Young? And what is this In the Middle of Things all about?

Jeff Young left his career of 17 years in education in order to pursue his passion for social media. In 2005 Jeff started to podcast his Spanish and Religion classes. He saw early on that podcasting and blogging are highly effective tools in transferring information to students.

But Jeff saw another dimension of social media in education too: the motivation factor. It’s not only about transferring information. It’s about engaging the students and having them engage the material, entering into a conversation with the teacher and fellow students. Young people, who growing up with screens, respond very well in an environment that uses media to communicate its message. Simply put, social media motivates students to learn.

Eventually, in November of 2008, Jeff felt compelled to start a podcast about one of his greatest passions… food and cooking. Thus was born The Catholic Foodie. An innovative concept, the Catholic Foodie took off and grew very quickly. Nine months after its launch, the podcast was picked up as an affiliate of SQPN, the Star Quest Production Network, which is an international Catholic new media network. The reach of the Catholic Foodie continues to grow.

With 5 years experience in podcasting, blogging, and social networking, Jeff is now a social media consultant. He helps businesses develop and maintain an effective online presence.

So what about In the Middle of Things?

Jeff launched In the Middle of Things as a platform to share his thoughts on social media and life. It’s about the nitty-gritty details of life. It’s about how social media build community and brings the human element into the new technologies.

In the end, Jeff hopes that his In the Middle of Things project encourages you. He hopes it encourages you in the nitty-gritty details of your life… that it gives you concrete ideas on how to effectively integrate the “social aspect” of social media in your daily life.
