IMT005 – Social Media vs. Education

Social media versus education?

Well… Yeah.

First off I need to say that I left a career in education just a month-and-a-half ago in order to become a social media consultant full-time. [A social media consultant who is for hire, by the way! Check me out at jeffyoung.me]

In this episode I share with you the joys and the struggles of teaching high school and working for the church. It might give you some insight as to why I would leave formal education and ministry after 17 years.

I also clue you in on my passion for social media (notice the keyword here… social). What does a social media consultant do? And why do I think I can succeed in this?

Listen to find out!

    Jeff:

I really like how you're using IMT podcast to share with us your dreams and passions about the direction you want to go in your life. I'd like to continue to follow your progress in this area.

One note about the format - especially the ending of the podcast - I think it's just too abrupt. Even though we as human beings live in the middle of things, and we find that things often are not complete, this is a reality that we have to live with and work out our salvation in. However, we as human beings like to have some type of closure to things. We feel somewhat satisfied when we hear the resolution in a good piece of music or watching the good guy win in a superhero story, or we thrill to see our team win after a long 7-inning stretch (or whatever it's called - I'm not knowledgable about sports).

Think of what the Church provides for grieving families when they lose a loved one. The Church provides a three step closure with the Vigil or wake service, the funeral mass and the committal ceremony at the graveside. While it is a difficult time for families, it is healthy to go through a period of closure, resting assured in faith that God has everything in the palm of His hand.

And so with podcasting . . . even though we live in the middle of things in reality, we yearn for closure. and so closure is what may be called for here.

    Well, that's my 2 cents.

Thanks for sharing your life with us.

Jeff, this was episode #4 not episode #5 like it says. Are you going to upload episode #5? Looking forward to hearing the next episode of In the Middle of Things. I've been enjoying this new podcast. Keep up the great work.

  • Yikes!

Thanks, Dan, for pointing that out! I must have attached the wrong file. I apologize for that. It's fixed now. You can listen to it online immediately. I don't know how long it will take iTunes to correct the link though. Hopefully not long.

    Thanks again, Dan!

    God bless!
